Introducing Facebook Shops. How It Works.

Facebook Shops

Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Facebook Inc., has introduced a new version of Facebook Shops during a live streaming keynote, on 19th May 2020. A more powerful section of Shops will be launched this summer starting from the United States, before than a global diffusion.

Facebook Shops will allow brands, retailers and merchants to update their product catalogue available on the main assets owned by Menlo Park’s social media mogul (Facebook, Messenger, Instagram and WhatsApp). Potentially brands could reach more than 3 billions people around the globe.

Yes, you are right. Facebook Shops already exists right now. So, what’s new?

Since its first launch, Facebook was not able to become a relevant player in the e-commerce ecosystem. Like global marketplaces (Amazon and Alibaba, or Lazada, Shopee, JD and others. By the way, if you’re running a shop in Lazada & Shopee Thailand you could be interested in our solutions!) and other social media platforms (WeChat and the rising LINE).

Learning from the past mistakes, Facebook wants to make it simpler for brands to offer better e-commerce experiences for their customers, and also improve shop management, creative tools, payment methods and customer service. Everything is for free.

Helping Small Businesses Sell Online with Facebook Shops

Facebook stated that they want to “give people a place to experience the joy of shopping versus the chore of buying. And we want to help small businesses adapt and make it easier for people to discover and shop for things they love.

Right now [for the COVID-19] many small businesses are struggling, and with stores closing, more are looking to bring their business online. Our goal is to make shopping seamless and empower anyone from a small business owner to a global brand to use our apps to connect with customers. That’s why we’re launching Facebook Shops and investing in features across our apps that inspire people to shop and make buying and selling online easier.”

And the statement continues saying that “businesses can choose the products they want to feature from their catalog and then customize the look and feel of their shop with a cover image and accent colors that showcase their brand. This means any seller, no matter their size or budget, can bring their business online and connect with customers wherever and whenever it’s convenient for them.

People can find Facebook Shops on a business’ Facebook Page or Instagram profile, or discover them through stories or ads. From there, you can browse the full collection, save products you’re interested in and place an order — either on the business’ website or without leaving the app.”
